My father struggled for months with severe hyperacusis in combination with tinnitus, brought on by long-term hearing loss and exacerbated by a prescribed antibiotic. We had to attend a special conference in Iowa to learn more about his condition because his former audiologist offered almost no help. For a couple of years, I struggled with hearing loss. There were many reasons I postponed dealing with the issue… not the least of which was emotional. I simply did not want to admit I had reached the age where I needed help with my hearing. On my first visit with Dr. Markva at Fauquier Hearing Services, I was assured that many people much younger than I was were being treated. Everyone at FHS were very professional and helpful. They assisted me during my adjustment period, and today I can truly say… I love my hearing aids, and they have given me a brighter outlook on life.

I want to encourage every male to test their hearing. I did not realize how agitated I was getting when I could not hear or understand people I was talking to. You may not understand or know how hearing loss can affect your whole demeanor.
